Think of Greece and you'll think of ancient architecture, Greek mythology and stunning white sand beaches. Modern Greece is far more diverse with modern cities and a vibrant nightlife, the favourable climate making it a popular destination for history buffs, sun worshippers and bar hoppers alike. Motorhome hire in Greece is a popular holiday option, and not only for creating awesome memories of a lifetime, but for the flexibility it gives you to discover the cities, landscapes and islands of this country at your own pace. So hop aboard! - Cultural and scenic wonders await you.
With motorhome hire, you avoid the frustration of booking hotel rooms and an onboard kitchen means the expense of constantly eating out will be considerably less too. Touring the country also won't mean constant packing and unpacking, waiting around for trains, or sweating it out on a bus. You're free to go wherever you want, whenever you choose. And no interesting village or off the beaten track ruin is off limits because of a lack of transport.
Chances are that if you're thinking about motorhome hire in Greece, you're not planning on staying fixed in one place for your holiday. So it's a good idea to plan your itinerary ahead of time: No trip would be complete without seeing Greece's largest city and the oldest in Europe, Athens. With more than 3 million residents and a wealth of history, architecture, mythology, philosophy, culinary delights and a vibrant nightlife, all (literally) topped off by the instantly recognisable Acropolis, it won't be difficult to understand the popularity of this world famous city.
Thessaloniki is a 5 hour drive from Athens and is its hip, younger cousin. A university city with a plethora or great bars and cafés, it is also a great alternative as a starting point to Greece, being well connected by air, land, and the deep blue Aegean sea.
If quiet beaches are more your thing, then the Peloponnese in the south is an ideal option for untouched, largely unpopulated white sand beaches. Many campsites which accept motorhomes are located close to beaches here and offer lots of on-site facilities, such as showers, pizzerias and swimming pools. If you prefer wild camping, strictly speaking it is not legal in Greece but is tolerated by locals (especially taverna owners). Just remember to be considerate and respect the environment, take your rubbish with you and no fires!
If you fancy a spot of island hopping but didn't think it was possible with a motorhome in tow, then think again. Many ferry companies are able to take motorhomes on board. Just be sure to check which ferries are able to carry a vehicle of your size. Some islands on the other hand are perfect for a day trip. From Athens, the islands of Aegina, Hypra and Poros can be easily reached by boat in less than an hour. Other popular island destinations off the mainland include Corfu, Spetses and Angistri.
And then there is Crete. Greece's largest island is so big you could spend an entirely separate holiday there exploring its coastline, mountains, cities, villages and ancient ruins. Overnight ferries from Athens take around 9 hours to reach the main port. Alternatively, with great flight connections from mainland Europe, you can even pick up your motorhome from one of our Cretan suppliers and turn your motorhome hire holiday in Greece, into a motorhome hire holiday in Crete.
