Belgium is a small country which is at the very heart of the idea of what is European. And not just because the capital Brussels is the home of the European Parliament, but also for the diversity of people and languages in such a small and fast-changing landscape. Above all, Belgium is a country of two distinct halves, with intriguing medieval towns and first-class international cities typifying the flatlands of the north and scenic undulating natural settings, mingled with cultural diversity, in the more rural south. Add to this the fact that some of the best beer in the world is produced here, and it becomes easy to see why motorhome hire in Belgium is a great option.
The biggest consideration you'll need to make before heading out on your motorhome hire holiday to Belgium is deciding which vehicle to take with you. At Campanda, with a range of vehicles which cater to everyone from touring couples to large families, you're sure to find the motorhome to best suit your requirements. If you're attracted by the idea of self-sufficiency, then you'll be pleased to know that most of our vehicles come fitted with a fully-equipped kitchenette and washroom with toilet and shower. Thus saving you money on expensive hotel rooms and restaurants.
Cheap flights go daily from the UK and other European cities to the two major Belgian airports – Brussels International and Brussels S. Charleroi– as well as to Antwerp Deurne. Ferries also leave daily from Hull, which will take you to Zeebrugge on the North Sea coast in under seven hours, from where you can easily reach Bruges in half an hour. You could even get a ferry to Rotterdam in the Netherlands, pick up your motorhome from one of our Dutch suppliers and be crossing the Belgian border in a little over an hour. Hooray! Time for that first beer (once you've parked up your motorhome safely for the evening that is).
The small size of Belgium and its excellent toll-free roads and transport connections makes this an easy country to navigate. If you're starting your holiday in Flemish speaking Flanders in the north, then you'll definitely want to spend a day exploring the canals and fairytale architecture of Bruges. Conveniently close by are a small selection of motorhome-ready and well-equipped campsites, the closest one being only a short 30 minute walk away from the city centre. If you're planning on visiting Brussels as well (which has something of a lack of well-connected campsites) we recommend parking up your motorhome here for a few days. This will allow you to explore Bruges on foot, and gives you the option to take the 40 minute train journey to Brussels, leaving the motorhome behind. This way you can enjoy the café culture on Brussels' fabulous Grand Place, with only a quick train journey between you and your motorhome.
After this, crossing over into French speaking Wallonia in the more bucolic south makes a nice contrast to the industrial north. Here the interesting blend of French, German and Luxembourgian cultures blend together with varied landscapes full of caves, castles, hilly valleys and charming villages. A motorhome hire holiday in Belgium wouldn't be complete without passing through the Belgian part of the Ardennes mountain and hill range. Many excursion companies organise outdoor activities here, such as hiking, biking, canoeing and kayaking, with many organising activities aimed at kids as well.
